THE CHALLENGE
When these clients decided to expand their home by finishing their walkout basement, they envisioned a “rustic cabin” feel. The owners wanted to:
- Add a large fieldstone fireplace
- Create space for a billiard table and built-in wet bar
- Have a sitting area with bookshelves and cabinets
- Work around the extensive mechanical system in the basement

THE SOLUTION
Bartelt. The Remodeling Resource gave the owners:
- Log walls made of rough-hewn hemlock and synthetic mortar
- A stairwell lined with logs
- Two mock windows that gave people a view of the lower level
- A fireplace with salvaged fieldstone from a nearby farmhouse
- A new location for the furnace and water heater
