THE CHALLENGE
Our clients wanted to have their "Brady Bunch" style home remodeled prior to moving back to United States. It was located in an upscale neighborhood, and built sometime in the 1980's. They really didn't like the look of the Oak Cabinetry in the kitchen. They challenged the design team to upgrade the kitchen without changing the configuration. They had recently added granite counter tops and wanted to be cost effective, reusing them if possible. They challenged the design department to get rid of the low tray ceilings in the kitchen, add a planning desk, and to add locker space in the back hall off the garage. In remodeling the kitchen they wanted to make the adjoining family room feel like it blended in with the entertaining style they desired. |
THE SOLUTION
The first thing that had to go in remodeling this kitchen was the oak cabinetry and the tray ceilings. This allowed the designers to improve the look of the kitchen by removing the soffits, and add new maple cabinetry, adding warmth to the look of the room. By turning an existing closet into a entertaining style bar, this provided the perfect bridge to make these rooms feel like one larger space. This classic kitchen layout, allowed us to reuse the existing granite and save them some money in the process. By adding a built in planning desk for the computer, built in pantry cabinety and locker space off the entrance from the garage, the entire space received a face lift. This also brought organization to the usual "drop zones" of the children, providing a place for the back packs and coats as they come home from school. The old granite counter tops looked beautiful as they are now highlighted by the warmth of the maple cabinetry. Millwork was changed out in the house to match the new cabinetry. The project also included a remodel to the master bedroom suite upstairs. A great family feature is the Plasma Screen TV, hidden above the Refrigerator behind the cabinetry!
