THE CHALLENGE
A 4000-square-foot luxury penthouse on the 18th and 19th floors of a premier Milwaukee building is a great place to enjoy an incredible view, but not necessarily the most renovation-conducive environment. The job required a 165-ton hydraulic crane to lift all the materials needed for the build out, trim, drywall, etc. lifting it up 18 floors to the place of renovation. While traffic was halted on the city street below, there was also the careful coordination of materials needed in advance for both rough and finished stages including all the lumber, plumbing, drywall, finish tile, cast stone fireplaces, and at the same time consider the logistics of storage for all these materials and tools needed to complete the job. You also have to consider all the neighbors that live 17 floors of below the project site. The end goal: create a space perfect for social gatherings, yet durable enough to accommodate pets and grandchildren. |
THE SOLUTION
Bartelt. The Remodeling Resource modified details and added a residential twist to the design created by a commercial architectural firm. In doing so, created a home worthy of its incomparable location. We accentuated a French European theme throughout, complete with a hand-made, wrought iron, curved staircase boasting poured concrete treads, which acts as the condominium unit's centerpiece that leads to the second floor with private bedroom suites. Other highlights include embossed moldings, stone tile floors, a gas fireplace with stone surround, and a tone-on-tone color scheme. The elegant atmosphere compliments perfectly the stunning view available from every room.
